How Do We Help the Whole Family?

Jul 12 • 2 minute read

Finding one dentist who can treat the needs of your whole family can be difficult. However, our dentist, Dr. Kathryn Siemens, gladly welcomes patients of almost any age to her practice. Her dedication to patient care and experience with conducting certain procedures helps her give your family the dental care you all need.

A Comforting Approach for Children

The largest hurdle in searching for a dentist for the whole family is finding one with experience treating children. Because kids are both more susceptible to a variety of oral health problems and less likely to be patient with a dentist, most dentists will not examine kids until they are older.

At our Fresno dental practice, Dr. Siemens can see patients as young as two years old; only patients younger that this would need to see a pediatric dentist. Her focus on patient comfort includes being able to explain everything she does in a language a child can understand, from describing the importance of an exam and cleaning to teaching them how to brush and floss. We can even provide nitrous oxide in cases where a child’s dental anxieties cannot be calmed by conversation alone. By being as careful and attentive to kids as she can, in addition to her focus on comfortable care for adults, Dr. Siemens is able to see you and your whole family.

Providing the Right Procedures

The key to providing treatment for all generations of a family is appreciating both the similarities and differences between adult, geriatric, and child care. Patients of all ages need cleanings, exams, and other preventive care in order to keep their smile as healthy as possible. The differences in age-based dental care depend upon which treatments are more commonly needed at what age range and how the development of oral health affects the way that treatment is conducted.

Our practice provides fluoride treatment for children and adults alike, adjusting the strength of the application to serve their particular needs. Children can also benefit from sealants to prevent tooth decay, while adults and seniors can benefit from crowns and implant-supported restorations to recover from decay. Our dentist personalizes our patients’ dental care in all regards, including how their age affects their cases.
